How To Start Feeding Your Dog Raw Food

If you want a healthier and happier dog switching to raw or incorporating raw food into their diet might be what you’re looking for.

I've been feeding my dogs a raw diet for almost 2 years now and honestly, I would never go back. I've been so happy with the health benefits I've seen, and we have definitely had fewer trips to the vet since we made the switch.

Here’s how to make that change easy and effective:

  • If your dog has been eating kibble their whole life, it’s important to slowly transition them to raw food. The introduction of fresh foods can cause some GI upset from introducing real whole ingredients

  • It is normal and even expected for many dogs to exhibit loose stool, goopy eyes, or itchy skin temporarily as their bodies adjust to nutrient-dense foods. Veterinarians explain this as a healthy “detox” process. But of course, always check in with your vet if your dog has any health or medical needs.

  • Of course this is not to shame anyone or make anyone feel bad if you can’t afford to feed your dog a completely raw diet this is just how to transition to a raw diet in a safe and effective way

  • Every dog is different and everyone's situation is different so it's important to monitor your dog's symptoms as you progress through this process.

  • If your dog isn't showing symptoms and seems to be doing well during the transition process you can stick to the shorter transition, but if your dog does seem to be showing symptoms you will want to stick to the longer transition process.

Example of gradual transition:

  • Day 1 to 1st Week: 75% original kibble 25% new food

  • Day 3 to 2nd Week: 50% original kibble 50% new food

  • Day 6 to 3rd Week: 25% original kibble 75% new food

  • Day 10 to 4th Week: 0% original kibble 100% new food

Benefits of feeding raw dog food:

  • Better weight control
  • Softer, shinier, and healthier skin and coat
  • Increased energy
  • Reduction in allergies
  • Improved digestion
  • Mealtime excitement
  • Picky eater approved

Our favorite raw food:

My favorite brand of dog food that I've tried so far has to be We Feed Raw. Their patties are complete and balanced, and they are nutritionist-formulated and vet-approved. Their ingredients are sourced from the USDA and are human-grade, and they have free cold shipping nationwide.

I trust them because they only use high-quality ingredients that contain all the vitamins and minerals that your dog needs to thrive.

The most important thing that you can do for your dog's diet is to make sure their meals are completely balanced, and the ingredients used are sourced properly and safely.

If you want to give We Feed Raw a try you can get 25% off your 1st box by clicking here and using our code CUTETHREE25.

Please keep in mind that I'm not a veterinarian or an animal nutritionist, so it's best to consult with an expert before introducing new foods to your dog's diet. Ensure home-cooked meals are balanced and include all necessary nutrients for their health. If you're unsure about feeding something to your dog or if your dog has an underlying health condition check in with your vet.
